Philippine police are examining a laptop and alleged child abuse material tied to Thomas Markle Sr., the estranged father of Meghan Markle.
Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla confirmed the probe on Sunday. He said police inspected Markle’s former home in Cebu and recovered a laptop and what he called a trove of child pornography material.
The investigation followed a report by Markle’s son, Thomas Markle Jr. He told The Sun that he found the material in boxes of his father’s belongings. He said he then alerted the authorities.
Remulla said forensic experts are analysing the laptop. He expects the results within a week.
“We want to be sure before we release the findings,” he said. He added that family disputes can complicate such cases, so investigators are weighing every angle.
Markle Sr., 82, is a retired Hollywood lighting director. He has since left the Philippines and has not been charged. He has denied the allegations and called them lies.
Remulla said police will work with their foreign counterparts to locate Markle. They will pursue legal action only if the evidence supports it.
