A woman who left service in 2004 has finally received her gratuity, 22 years later. She says rising prices have cut its value so much that it could not clear her debts.
The retiree spoke on condition of anonymity. She confirmed that her arrears were paid and her Retirement Savings Account (RSA) was credited.
Payment Came Too Late
The retiree said rising prices over the years had weakened the payout. When the money arrived, it fell short of what she owed.
She stressed how long she had waited. She retired in 2004, and the gratuity was only paid this year.
Another Pensioner Praises Reforms
Not every pensioner shares her disappointment. Mr Christopher Bello, another retiree, praised the Federal Government and the National Pension Commission (PenCom) for improving pension administration.
According to him, monthly pension payments have come regularly over the past three years. He added that pensioners also received an increase during that period.
“The federal government and PenCom have done well,” he said.
