Neuralink executive Shivon Zilis has revealed that billionaire Elon Musk abruptly ended their five-year relationship with barely a week’s notice.
Zilis, who serves as the director of operations and special projects at Neuralink, took to X to share the deeply personal news, leaving followers stunned by how quickly things unraveled.
“Hard to go from in love to let go in a week with no warning, but that’s just how it is sometimes,” Zilis wrote, noting that Musk had also unfollowed her.
A Sudden Reversal: The Leaked Chats
To illustrate how unexpected the split was, Zilis shared a screenshot of an intimate text exchange dated around September 24.
In the messages, Zilis wrote, “It was really wonderful to see you for breakfast. Love you very much,” to which Musk casually replied, “Love you too.” Just days later, the dynamic shifted entirely.

Before this sudden split, the dynamic between Musk and Zilis had largely unfolded away from the public eye. Zilis first crossed paths with Musk through her work in the tech sector, including her role at Neuralink. Throughout their time together, she has been a key figure in his inner circle and shares four children with the billionaire.

Despite the heartbreak, Zilis maintained a gracious tone about their future as coparents.
“I do hope and pray he and I can be great friends and coparents,” she shared, adding, “I’m hurting, but care deeply about E and will always be cheering for his happiness.”
