Nigeria’s Future Eagles have finished the group stage unbeaten at the inaugural FIFA U-15 World Cup and Festival in Baku, Azerbaijan.
The U-15 side beat Cyprus 2-1. They then held Pakistan to a 1-1 draw on Monday. Earlier, they drew 3-3 with The Gambia.
Wisdom Oche put Nigeria ahead against Cyprus. Captain Timothy Ogar Ijachi then scored the winner. He played despite a knock picked up in the Gambia game.
Ijachi was on target again against Pakistan. The Asian side had taken the lead just after the break, but he pulled Nigeria level.
What Next For The Future Eagles
The tournament has no elimination format. No team goes home after the group stage. Nigeria will now wait to learn which tier they will play in next.
The competition gives young players valuable international experience. It also lets them test their skills against opponents from different footballing backgrounds. Their unbeaten run should give them a confidence boost for the next phase.
