The Kenyan Ministry of Tourism and Wildlife has officially recognized African fashion entrepreneur and talent scout Joan Okorodudu. The award honors her work using the Africa’s Next Supermodel initiative to connect creative arts, tourism, cultural exchange, and youth empowerment.

Nairobi serves as an important hub for Africa’s Next Supermodel, opening doors for young talent across the continent—including those from underrepresented groups and refugee communities.

A Legacy of Opening Doors

Okorodudu’s career spans over four decades across athletics, pageantry, fashion, and international business:

• Beauty & Sports: Track athlete turned Miss Nigeria Kaduna 1981, securing the first runner-up spot in the national Miss Nigeria competition.

• Talent Scouting: Founder of ISIS Models Africa and Africa’s Next Supermodel, establishing concrete pathways for African models to join global fashion markets.

• Global Collaborations: Launched the Vogue Talents for Africa initiative with Vogue Italia in 2014, raising €100,000 (€70,000 via Access Bank, €30,000 personal investment) to fund emerging African designers like South Africa’s Laduma Maxhosa.

• International Honors: Awarded the New African Woman Award in Arts & Culture (Dakar, 2017) and the U.S. Lifetime Presidential Award (2024).
