Kadeena Cox of Great Britain smashed the world record on Friday to take C4 1km gold at the Para Cycling Track World Championships in the Netherlands.
The 35-year-old stopped the clock at 1:09.545. The win gave her a seventh world title.
Cox then had to wait. Australia’s Tara Neyland rode after her, chasing a medal and a faster time. She could not catch the Briton.
The team wrapped Cox in a Union flag as she celebrated. It was her first world title since 2024. She has also won five Paralympic gold medals.
Britain had more to cheer elsewhere. James Ball defended his men’s tandem B 1km time-trial title, this time with new partner Aaron Pope. The pair rode a commanding final in 59.563 seconds. The result gave Ball his eighth world title and Pope his first.
The women’s pursuit brought a record battle. Sophie Unwin and Jenny Holl set a new world record of 4:30.262 in qualifying. Their mark did not last long. New Zealand’s Emma Foy and Jessie Hodges beat it with 4:29.672. The same pair then won the final, and Unwin and Holl took silver.
Britain also collected two bronze medals. Archie Atkinson finished third in the men’s C4 final. Fin Graham took bronze in the C3 1km time-trial.
