Dani Carvajal has found a new club. The former Real Madrid captain has joined Getafe on a free transfer.
The 34-year-old right-back had been a free agent since his Real Madrid contract expired in June. Getafe have now signed him until June next year. The club sit 11th in La Liga and are based in the south of Madrid.
Carvajal was born in Madrid and spent 23 years at Real. During that time, he won 27 titles, including six Champions League trophies. That haul makes him one of football’s most decorated players. He also made 451 appearances for the club.
For Spain, he earned 51 caps. He was part of the squads that won the 2023 Nations League and Euro 2024.
However, injuries have clouded his recent seasons. He tore a cruciate ligament in October 2024. A year later, he suffered another serious knee injury. In addition, Trent Alexander-Arnold’s arrival last summer cut his playing time in his final season at the Bernabeu.
Getafe said they value his experience and leadership.
By staying in the Spanish capital, Carvajal avoids a move abroad. He also gets a chance to play regularly again and show he can still perform at the top level.
