NDC Reports N8.529bn Income And N2.402bn Spending In Seven Months

Date:

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has published a summary of its finances. The party says it earned N8.529 billion in seven months and spent N2.402 billion. That leaves N6.127 billion.

National Treasurer Dr Peter Onigah presented the figures at the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting in Abuja on Monday.

Where The Money Came From

The NDC says its income came from three sources:

  • Sales of nomination forms
  • Dues and levies
  • Contributions from supporters

The N2.402 billion in spending covered primaries, publicity, staff salaries and other costs.

Why The Party Went Public

National Chairman Senator Moses Cleopas said the party wanted members to know how their money was used. He said the move was not a reaction to claims on social media.

Parties must file financial reports with the relevant authorities at the end of each year. The NDC chose to report early, before its first anniversary. Cleopas said audited accounts would go to the authorised bodies when due.

The party also dared other political parties to open their books to public scrutiny.

Cleopas said Peter Obi’s call for accountability was not aimed at the NDC leadership. He described it as a challenge to all who manage public funds. In his words, anyone handling public money must be open about it.

Senator Wants Funds Shared With States

Senator Victor Umeh, who represents Anambra Central, welcomed the briefing. He said the party had shown transparency by presenting the numbers. He added that members now had facts to counter rumours.

Umeh also made a request. He asked the leadership to return a fair share of state-generated funds to the state chapters. That money, he said, would help them set up offices and raise the party’s profile.

Cleopas replied that the matter was already on the leadership’s agenda. He promised that states would get their rightful shares under the party’s constitution.

Party Urges Unity Ahead Of 2027

Cleopas also gave an update on earlier NEC resolutions. A reconciliation committee has toured the geopolitical zones to meet aggrieved aspirants. Regular meetings at the national secretariat are also helping to settle disputes.

He urged members to drop their differences and back all NDC candidates. He called the party’s campaign a rescue mission for the country. He predicted victory for Obi, the presidential candidate, and Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, his running mate.

Several party figures attended the meeting. They included Obi, Kwankwaso, National Leader Senator Henry Seriake Dickson, and members of the National Working Committee. Others present were former Deputy Senate President Ovie Omo-Agege, Senator Tony Nwoye, former Ebonyi governor Sam Egwu and Aisha Binani.
