First Lady Oluremi Tinubu has said Nigerians who do not recognise the country’s progress may need what she called “Bola Tinubu eyeglasses.”
She spoke on Friday in Abuja. The occasion was the inauguration of the headquarters of the PBAT Door-to-Door Movement. The group is a grassroots body campaigning for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in 2027.
Mrs Tinubu said things are happening in Nigeria, apart from what some people fail to see. She added that such people could be given the eyeglasses, and she referred to the “JigiBola” scheme.
What JigiBola Means
JigiBola is an eye-care programme the president started in 2001 as Lagos State governor. It offered free eye screening, eyeglasses and surgery. The Lagos State Government relaunched it in 2021.
Airports Cited as Proof
The First Lady pointed to changes at Nigerian airports as evidence of progress. She said she wanted to travel quickly and noted that the airports were changing.
She also spoke about her hopes for life after the Presidential Villa. Mrs Tinubu said she wanted to leave Aso Rock in 2031, by God’s grace. She hopes to step into a Nigeria that a woman in her 70s can enjoy.
Campaign Headquarters Commissioned
She then formally commissioned the movement’s Abuja campaign headquarters. She did so for the glory of God and for her husband’s victory in 2027.
Mrs Tinubu also voiced support for the All Progressives Congress (APC). She backed the movement’s convener, Government Ekpemupolo, popularly known as Tompolo.
