eHealth Africa and Egypt Sign Deal to Boost Digital Health Across the Continent

Date:

eHealth Africa has signed a cooperation protocol with Egypt’s Ministry of Health and Population. The two sides want to push digital health, artificial intelligence (AI) and public health innovation across Africa.

The signing took place in Berlin, Germany, on October 10, 2026. Adam Thompson, Group Chief Executive Officer and Co-Founder of eHealth Africa, signed for the organisation. Prof. Mohamed Fawzi, Advisor to Egypt’s Health Minister for Radiology Affairs, signed for the ministry. Health Minister Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar witnessed the event.

Areas of Cooperation

The protocol sets out a framework for joint work in several fields:

  • Health information systems
  • AI-based diagnostics
  • Disease surveillance
  • Public health analytics
  • Teleradiology
  • Stroke care

It also covers training, knowledge sharing and joint roles in regional health programmes. The goal is to strengthen healthcare delivery across Africa.

What the Leaders Said

Thompson said the deal reflects a belief that Africa already has the skills, infrastructure and experience to solve its own health problems. In his view, linking African institutions, technology and field experience can strengthen health systems. It can also widen access to quality care and produce lasting solutions for communities.

Atef Fawaz, executive director of eHealth Africa, was part of the delegation. He said strategic partnerships are key to regional cooperation and sustainable health systems. According to him, the deal links African expertise to regional and global opportunities.

Dr. Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, spokesperson for Egypt’s health ministry, said the agreement fits the ministry’s drive to use modern technology in healthcare. He added that it will deepen international partnerships and encourage knowledge exchange between Egypt and other African countries.

He said the deal will help expand teleradiology services across the continent. It will also support joint stroke care programmes and Egypt-led regional health initiatives. Both parties will explore joint projects that could be funded through international financing mechanisms and donor agencies.

Next Steps

The partners plan to set up a Joint Working Group. It will coordinate activities and pick initiatives that match their shared priorities. Specific projects will follow under mutually agreed arrangements.
