Wizkid Set to Headline Opening Night of Detty December Fest 2026 in Lagos

Grammy-winning Afrobeats icon Wizkid will open the 2026 Detty December Fest, organizers have officially confirmed.

The star takes the main stage on December 18, 2026, kicking off a massive 13-day celebration of music, culture, fashion, and food in Lagos, Nigeria. The festival wraps up on December 30.

What’s New for Detty December Fest 2026?

Produced by entertainment company Livespot360, the festival expands significantly this year. The biggest upgrade is the introduction of a second performance stage.

  • The Main Stage: Wizkid and top global stars headline the festival’s biggest nights.

  • The Pulse Stage: A dedicated platform for emerging African talent, fresh soundscapes, and breakthrough artists.

Darey Art Alade, Co-founder and Chief Creative Officer of Livespot360, explained the vision behind the new stage:

“African music has never been more influential globally, and we believe our festivals should reflect that ambition. The introduction of the Pulse Stage gives the next generation of artists a platform to perform alongside some of the biggest names in music.”

Building on Last Year’s Success

This year’s festival builds on the successful 2025 launch. Last year, thousands of music lovers gathered in Lagos to watch international and local heavyweights.

Previous performers included:

  • International Stars: Busta Rhymes, Gunna, Shenseea

  • African Icons: Tiwa Savage, Diamond Platnumz, Wande Coal, Phyno, and Juma Jux

  • Rising Stars: Fave, Young Jonn, Qing Madi, and Ice Prince

Organizers plan to release more headliners for the 2026 lineup in the coming weeks.

Busy Year for Wizkid

Wizkid’s return to the festival stage comes during an active period in his career. The music superstar is preparing to release his anticipated seventh studio album.

Earlier this year, he dropped Real, Vol. 1, a joint EP with Asake. He has also collaborated with several top artists recently, including:

  • Tyla on “Dynamite”

  • Ayra Starr on “Gimme Dat” (nominated for Best African Music Performance at the 2026 Grammy Awards)

  • Collaborations with Vybz Kartel, Odeal, and Jorja Smith

Why “Detty December” Matters to Lagos

Detty December has grown into a major economic engine for Nigeria. The holiday season transforms Lagos into the global capital of Afrobeats, nightlife, and cultural tourism.

  • Economic Impact: A report by MO Africa Company estimates that Detty December events generated ₦396.5 billion in consumer spending across Lagos during the festive period.

  • Government Support: The Nigerian Federal Executive Council even established a presidential task force on Detty December to strengthen tourism and coordinate inter-agency support.

Detty December Fest 2026 promises 13 days of nonstop music and entertainment from December 18 to 30.
