Wike Shuts FG Houses Committee Secretariat, Transfers Operations

Wike Orders Immediate Shutdown of FG Houses Committee Secretariat in FCT

In a decisive move to streamline administration and curb potential fraud, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has ordered the immediate closure of the secretariat of the dissolved Ad-hoc Committee on Sales of Federal Government Houses (SFGH) in Abuja.

The announcement was confirmed in an official statement issued by Lere Olayinka, the Senior Special Assistant to the Minister on Public Communications and Social Media.

What Triggered the Decision?

The Ad-hoc Committee on Sales of Federal Government Houses was originally tasked with overseeing the disposal and management of government-owned residential properties within the FCT. While the main committee completed its core assignment some time ago, its secretariat was temporarily retained to handle lingering administrative issues and post-sale matters.

However, to create a permanent, standardized administrative structure, Minister Wike determined that the interim secretariat setup was no longer required.

Department of Land Administration Takes Over

Rather than leaving a structural vacuum, the FCT Minister has approved the establishment of a dedicated new division within the Department of Land Administration.

Key operational changes include:

  • Full Transfer of Functions: The newly created division will assume all responsibilities formerly handled by the defunct ad-hoc committee and its secretariat.

  • Centralized Processing: All pending inquiries, documentation, and property transaction matters will now be managed directly through mainstream FCT administration channels.

  • Public Advice: Members of the public are advised to direct all transactions, claims, and inquiries regarding the sale of Federal Government houses exclusively to the Department of Land Administration.

Critical Fraud Alert Issued to the Public

Along with the administrative shutdown, the FCT Administration issued a strong warning to Abuja residents and property buyers regarding prospective scams.

Public Advisory: The FCTA urges citizens to be vigilant against fraudsters who may continue to pose as official agents, staff, or members of the defunct SFGH ad-hoc committee. Because the committee and its secretariat no longer exist legally or operationally, any individual claiming to represent them is acting illegally.

Key Summary for FCT Property Buyers

  1. Secretariat Closed: The SFGH Secretariat in Abuja is officially shut down.

  2. New Contact Point: Visit the Department of Land Administration for all official issues related to FG house sales in the FCT.

  3. Beware of Impostors: Do not pay funds or hand over property documentation to anyone claiming to represent the old committee.
