Soldiers in Katsina State have freed 27 people kidnapped from Gamji community in Sabuwa Local Government Area. The victims were 15 men and boys and 12 women and girls.
The troops belong to the Joint Task Force North West, Operation Fansan Yamma. They moved in on October 16, 2026, after receiving a distress call.
The task force’s Media Information Officer, Lt. Col. Aliyu Danja, gave details in a statement on Tuesday. He said soldiers chased the attackers along the Gangare-Kamba axis and opened fire on them.
The gunmen could not hold their ground. “Troops engaged with superior firepower, forcing the terrorists to abandon their victims and flee in disarray,” Danja said.
Troops then searched the area and found all 27 captives unhurt. They profiled the rescued persons and handed them to community leaders, who will reunite them with their families.
On the same day, another team was on a fighting patrol near Kurba village in Kankara Local Government Area. The soldiers came across armed men riding three motorcycles. The suspects fled when they saw the troops and left one motorcycle behind.
Danja said both operations showed the task force’s determination to keep terrorists on the back foot and protect vulnerable communities. The Theatre Commander praised the soldiers for their bravery and quick response.
He also assured residents of Katsina, Zamfara and nearby states that the task force remains committed to lasting peace. The operations come as the military continues its fight against terrorism and kidnapping in the North-West.
