Suspected Fake FIRS Job Vacancy Circulating Online: What Job Seekers Should Know

Date:

A flyer titled “Job Vacancy – Replacement” is circulating online, claiming that the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) is hiring graduates. However, several details suggest it may be a scam.

The flyer invites graduates to apply for a “replacement” job for the 2026/2027 session. The deadline is October 24, 2026.

Applicants must send their CV to an email address ending in “replacementnhrmt.org”. In addition, they must have a passport photograph, a National Identification Number (NIN), a birth certificate and a means of identification ready.

The Agency Name Is Outdated

First, look at the name. The flyer is signed “Management, FIRS”. However, the Nigeria Revenue Service absorbed FIRS on 1 January 2026. A genuine notice would therefore carry the new name.

So far, the Nigeria Revenue Service has not announced any vacancy matching this flyer on its official website. The agency has not commented on it either.

The Email Address and Details Raise Concerns

Next, consider the email address. The official portal for NRS recruitment is www.nrs.gov.ng. A government agency would not normally ask for CVs through an ordinary “.org” address.

The flyer is also vague. It lists no specific roles, departments or salary. It only mentions a “graduates job”.

Moreover, it asks for a NIN, passport photograph and ID details at the CV stage. This puts applicants at risk of identity theft and fraud.

The Wording Gives It Away

The wording also looks suspicious. The flyer misspells the heading “Eligibility Requirements”. That mistake is unusual for an official notice.

It also calls the job a “replacement exercise” run through a “human resource management organization”. Scammers have used this format before. For example, a “replacement application form” page falsely claimed that the Nigeria Customs Service was recruiting.

FIRS has warned about fake recruitment in the past. It says it does not recruit through back door channels. It has also cautioned the public about scam artists who pose as recruitment agents and collect huge sums from victims.

How to Protect Yourself

Job seekers can take a few simple steps. First, check the agency’s official website and verified social media pages before applying. Second, never send your NIN, ID documents or money to an email address you cannot verify. Third, remember that genuine federal recruitment does not charge applicants fees.

Finally, share this warning with friends and family who are looking for jobs.
