The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to correct the omission of some of its candidates’ names from the list it published days ago.
In a statement, the party’s national leader, Sen. Henry Seriake Dickson, said the leadership has not been idle since the list came out. According to him, it has taken adequate steps to address the cases of the affected candidates.
Dickson insisted the candidates are not at fault. He said every one of them registered with the party before the statutory 21-day deadline set by law.
He also stressed the quality of the party’s lineup. The NDC has fielded candidates for every level, from the presidential race down to the State Houses of Assembly. All of them, he said, went through a rigorous and painstaking screening process.
For this reason, the party is confident that INEC will act. It expects the commission to fix the error without delay.
Meanwhile, the NDC does not want its campaign machinery to slow down. Dickson directed supporters to keep up consultations, town hall meetings and mobilisation in all states and constituencies. Campaigns, he added, must continue unabated.
The statement ended on a defiant note. The party vowed to keep fighting until it is victorious.
