APC Group Warns Northern Governors Against Campaigning Against Tinubu

Date:

A pro-Tinubu group has urged northern governors to stop what it calls an ongoing campaign against President Bola Tinubu in the North. It warned that failure to act could cost them their own re-election.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) North Central Grassroots Mobilisation Movement made the call in Minna, Niger State, on Thursday. The group was inaugurating its 25 local government arms.

Group admits “unhealthy” campaigns

The movement admitted that some campaigns against Tinubu’s re-election are running in the North. It said the governors must act quickly to end them.

Its coordinator, Alhaji Ibrahim Khaleel Aliyu, spoke at the event with other directors of the group. He is a former secretary of the APC in Niger State.

According to the group, a defeat for the President would strengthen opposition parties. It said their candidates would then have a better chance in the governorship elections that follow. “We should not allow this trending issue to continue,” Khaleel said.

Coordinators told to mobilise voters

Khaleel charged the local government and zonal coordinators to return to their wards and polling units. He wants each of them to mobilise at least 500 votes per polling unit for Tinubu and other APC candidates in the January and February 2027 elections.

He said the task would not be easy. “This election is not about sitting at home,” he said. He added that it is not about wearing flowing gowns or showing off. Instead, he said, it is about reaching the people and convincing them to vote APC from top to bottom.

He also cautioned party members against getting too close to opposition candidates. According to him, such members are being watched and monitored. He said the group would take action against them at the appropriate time.

Bago aide calls campaign a “war”

The Special Adviser on Political Matters (Zone B) to Niger State Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago, Alhaji Yusuf Tagwai, also spoke at the event. He described the coming campaign as a war. It would not be fought with weapons, he said, but with voters’ cards.

Tagwai told members that their work is not in Minna. He urged them to go to their polling units and not stay at home. He also asked them to set up committees from the ward level up to the state level to meet the group’s goal.
