Broda Shaggi Opens Up on Stray Bullet Ordeal: “I Feared Losing the Use of My Legs”

Date:

Comedian Broda Shaggi has said he feared he might never use his legs again after a stray bullet hit him in Ogun State. The incident kept him out of the public eye for months.

Born Samuel Animashaun Perry, the content creator spoke in an emotional video posted on social media. It was his first public account of what happened.

He said the shooting took place on March 9, 2026. His team had been filming a comedy skit near the Sango-Ota Bridge.

“We were done with the activation. We were already leaving. In fact, we were in traffic, but there was traffic because there was a crowd shooting,” he said.

He then described the moment he was hit. “Suddenly, I heard a loud bang, and everything went silent. I could see people talking, but I couldn’t hear anything. It was total silence in the car. Then I touched my hip and saw blood. That was when I realised I had been hit by a stray bullet.”

He lost consciousness soon after. His crew rushed him to a nearby medical facility. “I was totally unconscious till I got to the hospital. So, I didn’t even know how we got to the hospital. But one thing I could remember was me praying till we got to the first hospital, where first aid was administered,” he said.

That first stop was a private hospital in Alakuko, Lagos. It lacked the specialised equipment his gunshot wound demanded. He was moved to an emergency room in Ikeja, and his condition called for intensive care. He later flew to Dubai in the United Arab Emirates, where doctors performed a successful surgery.

His recovery moved quickly, he said. He stood with support on the second day after surgery. By the third day, he could walk on crutches.

Even so, fear crept in. His comedy relies heavily on physical energy, so losing his legs would have threatened his career.

“There were moments where I would see videos of my colleagues. I would laugh, and sometimes I would just start to cry because I wasn’t sure if I would still be able to do all these things they were doing again,” he said.

Broda Shaggi thanked God that the bullet missed a more vital organ. He also thanked his fans, who had spent months asking why he vanished from social media.
