Ebonyi State Commissioner for Project Monitoring and Evaluation, Chief Sunday Inyima, has rejected claims that his younger brother’s murder was politically driven. He asked the public to stop spreading unverified accounts.
Mr. Egeonu Inyima was allegedly killed by suspected assailants at Umuogudu-Oshia Ngbo in Ohaukwu Local Government Area.
Commissioner Rejects Political Claims
Inyima spoke in a statement issued in Abakaliki on Tuesday. He called the political angle false, misleading and made up. He said his brother had no quarrel with anyone over politics.
He warned that linking the killing to political conflict could stir needless tension. He also condemned those he said were passing round unconfirmed versions of the incident.
He made the remarks while receiving members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ohaukwu, who visited his country home in Izhiangbo to sympathise with him.
Call for a Fair Investigation
Inyima described the killing as unfortunate, barbaric and regrettable. He said the family would work with security agencies to find out what happened.
He urged the police and other agencies to be open, investigate thoroughly and bring the killers to justice. He also asked that no innocent person be blamed for the crime.
“Nobody, regardless of their status, including myself, should interfere,” he said. According to him, the legal process must be allowed to run its course.
