Seyi Makinde’s presidential campaign wants the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to say how many voter cards remain uncollected, where they are kept and who can access them. The team of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) candidate fears the cards could end up with agents of the All Progressives Congress (APC) before the 2027 elections.
The Makinde-Daura Presidential Campaign Organisation (MDPCO) raised the concern in a statement by its Director of Strategic Communications, Richard Ihediwa. Lawal Musa Daura is Makinde’s running mate.
The Allegation
The group claims some INEC officials plan to release millions of uncollected Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) to APC agents in secret. According to the statement, the cards would be used to bring unregistered people into polling centres. As a result, the outcome could be swayed in some locations.
The campaign also gave a reason for the alleged plot. It said the APM ticket is gaining support across the country, and the APC wants to weaken INEC’s processes in response.
“An unclaimed PVC must neither be a disposable property nor a political asset to the enemies of credible elections,” the group said.
What the Campaign Wants From INEC
The MDPCO urged the commission to respond quickly and assure Nigerians that election materials are safe. It also asked INEC to publish:
- A state-by-state breakdown of uncollected PVCs
- Details of where the cards are kept
- The measures that stop unauthorised access, collection or transfer
The group said such openness would rebuild public trust.
Calls to Voters and Observers
The campaign asked Nigerians to stay alert. It told them to watch activities around their polling units and report anything suspicious to security agencies and accredited observers. It also asked international observers to take note and seek assurances from INEC.
“The integrity of the 2027 general elections depends largely on the sanctity of the voter register and other materials, long before the first ballot is cast,” the statement said.
The allegations come from the MDPCO alone. The statement did not independently establish them.
