Nigerian Dancer Ben Dancer Completes Mind-Blowing 7-Day Dance Marathon
Nigerian dancer Benjamin Daniel Gabriel, widely known as Ben Dancer, has accomplished an extraordinary feat of endurance. Dancing for more than seven continuous days at Freedom Park in Lagos, he clocked an astounding 176 hours, 32 minutes, and 59 seconds—far surpassing his original target.
He set out to shatter the current Guinness World Record for the longest dance marathon by an individual, which was set at 127 hours by Indian dancer Srushti Sudhir Jagtap in 2023.
Overcoming the Odds in Lagos
The 33-year-old dancer, who brings 18 years of professional experience to the floor, initially set a goal of 168 hours (7 full days).
Driven by the energy of supporting crowds at Freedom Park, he pushed past his original target by more than nine hours before finally resting at noon on Tuesday.
Here is a quick look at how the epic marathon unfolded:
-
Preparation: Rigorous physical conditioning and a customized high-endurance diet before the event.
-
Rules & Rest: Adhered to official protocol, taking just 5 minutes of rest for every hour of continuous dancing.
-
Health & Safety: Supported on-site by medical personnel while staying hydrated with light meal intake.
-
Cultural Showcase: Performed in traditional Nigerian attire (including Agbada and Dashiki) across multiple genres—from Afrobeats and Fuji to Jazz and Zouk.
What’s Next for the Record?
Following the grueling performance, Ben Dancer was taken to the hospital for a routine medical check-up to ensure a safe recovery.
While the marathon timer has stopped, the official verification process is just beginning. Guinness World Records confirmed that his application remains active. His team is now assembling and submitting the required video evidence, logbooks, and witness statements for official review.
If verified, Ben Dancer will officially secure his place in history, showcasing the richness of Nigerian culture and the limits of human perseverance on the global stage.
