Flutterwave Names Morounke Olufemi Global CFO in Major Leadership Shift

Date:

Strategic Scale: Flutterwave Appoints Former Access Holdings CFO Morounke Olufemi as Global Finance Chief

African fintech leader Flutterwave has announced a key addition to its executive suite, promoting Morounke Olufemi to the position of Global Chief Financial Officer (CFO).

Olufemi, who previously served as the company’s CFO for Europe, the Middle East, and Africa (EMEA), steps into the top global finance role as outbound CFO Mitesh Popat transitions out to co-found a technology venture.

The move places a seasoned 24-year banking and corporate finance veteran at the financial helm of Africa’s most valuable payments enterprise as it expands its multi-currency liquidity and stablecoin capabilities.

A Banking Powerhouse Takes the Helm

Morounke Olufemi brings two decades of heavy-hitting corporate finance, M&A, and banking experience to the role. Prior to joining Flutterwave in mid-2025:

  • Access Holdings Leadership: As Group CFO of Access Holdings Plc, Olufemi managed financial operations across commercial banking, asset management, and digital payments. She successfully spearheaded the raising of $300 million in Additional Tier 1 capital in 2023 and led major capital market programs to align with regulatory recapitalization mandates.

  • Global Ecosystem Expertise: Her career spans international brands including Lehman Brothers Investment Bank Europe, AXA XL, and Old Mutual.

  • Academic Credentials: Olufemi holds an MBA in Finance from Durham University Business School and is a Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA).

Having managed Flutterwave’s EMEA operations across more than 30 countries over the past year, Olufemi’s transition into the global CFO role offers internal continuity paired with institutional discipline.

What This Leadership Transition Signals

1. Focus on Capital Discipline & Profitability

Flutterwave founder and CEO Olugbenga “GB” Agboola noted that Olufemi’s deep background in complex M&A and regulatory finance aligns directly with the company’s current stage of maturity. The financial roadmap under Olufemi emphasizes capital discipline, margin growth, and sustainable profitability across global operations.

2. Multi-Currency Liquidity & Stablecoin Settlement

Flutterwave continues to build settlement rails for multinational corporate clients needing working capital efficiency across emerging markets. Olufemi’s mandate will emphasize delivering multi-currency liquidity and expanding stablecoin settlement infrastructure for enterprise partners.

3. Institutional Governance

Bringing in a proven leader who led large-scale equity raises and tier-one bank integrations supports Flutterwave’s long-term corporate governance framework—a crucial priority as the firm prepares for its long-discussed public market debuts.

Executive Perspective

Our financial trajectory remains firmly on course. We will continue executing our strategy with a focus on capital discipline, margin growth, and sustainable profitability, while giving global finance leaders total control over their working capital as well as access to multi-currency liquidity and stablecoin settlement.”
