Elon Musk’s X Adds Bitcoin & Stock Trading Directly to Timeline

Elon Musk’s X Just Brought Bitcoin and Stock Trading Straight to Your Feed

Elon Musk is taking another big step to turn X into an “everything app.”

U.S. users can now buy and sell Bitcoin and stocks directly from their home feed. Instead of switching apps to check market prices or execute a trade, you can do it right where the market chatter happens.

Here is how the new feature works, who X is partnering with, and what it means for everyday traders.

What Changed? The New “Trade” Button Inside Cashtags

For years, people on X have used Cashtags (like $BTC or $TSLA) to search for financial tweets and live prices. Earlier this year, X added real-time price charts to those tags.

Now, X has added the missing piece: a direct Trade button right next to the chart.

How It Works in 3 Simple Steps:

  1. Tap a Cashtag: Click on any stock or crypto symbol (like $BTC, $ETH, or $TSLA) on your X feed.

  2. View Live Data: A real-time price chart opens inside the app.

  3. Tap “Trade”: Select the “Trade” button to jump directly to a supported broker or exchange to complete your order.

Who Handles the Trades?

It is important to note that X is not acting as a broker or financial exchange. The app does not hold your funds or execute orders directly.

Instead, tapping the “Trade” button connects you seamlessly to one of X’s official launch partners:

  • Crypto Exchanges: Coinbase, Kraken, Gemini

  • Stock Brokers: Interactive Brokers, Moomoo

When you tap “Trade,” X redirects you to your account on one of these platforms to complete the buy or sell order securely.

Why This Matters: Closing the Gap Between News and Trading

X is already the main hub for real-time market updates, financial news, and crypto discussions. A single tweet from an industry leader can move millions of dollars in seconds.

Previously, users had to read a post, close X, open a separate trading app, search for the asset, and place the trade.

As Mridul Singhai, X’s product engineering lead, explained:

“Cashtags close the gap between a ticker on the timeline and the market itself.”

By removing those extra steps, X makes it faster for traders to act on news as it breaks.

What’s Next for X as a Financial Hub?

This launch is part of Elon Musk’s broader vision to transform X into a full-featured financial ecosystem. Alongside trading integrations, X continues to build out X Money, an in-app payments framework designed for peer-to-peer transfers and instant settlements.

While it remains to be seen how many of X’s 245 million global users will use the button daily, one thing is clear: the line between social media news and financial markets is thinner than ever.
