NDLEA Intercepts Mexican Drug Kingpin at Lagos Airport, Dismantles Industrial Meth Lab in Ebonyi State

Nigeria’s National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has struck a decisive blow against international drug syndicates. Operations led by the agency resulted in the arrest of a 56-year-old Mexican kingpin, Arturo Carrera Loaiza, as he tried to flee the country through the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos.

The arrest led directly to the discovery and dismantling of a hidden, industrial-scale methamphetamine laboratory located in Isiata Ugoni Okposi, Ebonyi State.

This breakthrough exposes growing efforts by Latin American drug cartels to set up secret production hubs inside Nigeria’s rural regions and forests.

How the International Syndicate Was Uncovered

The operation was the result of months of intelligence gathering and cross-border cooperation by the NDLEA Special Operations Unit (SOU).

1. Ogun State Bust (May 16, 2026): NDLEA operatives arrested three Mexican nationals and seven Nigerian accomplices in a forest hideout.

The Airport Arrest and the Cover Story

On August 19, 2026, NDLEA officers tracked Loaiza to the Lagos airport, stopping him just as he attempted to board an outbound flight.

During questioning, Loaiza claimed he came to Nigeria on June 10, 2026, purely for a legitimate restaurant investment with a local contact named “Henry.” He denied any knowledge of drug production.

However, investigators uncovered photos on his devices showing him wearing a blue lab coat inside an active methamphetamine facility.

Forensic Evidence Leads to Ebonyi State Raid

Location data embedded in the recovered photos pointed agents to a site under construction in Isiata Ugoni Okposi, Ebonyi State, linked to a suspect identified as John Samuel Ivo Okike.

When officers inspected the premises on August 30, they discovered:

• A temporary structure built over a septic tank area.
