Across Nigeria, many women are quietly withdrawing from contesting for political offices, not because they lack capacity, but because they simply cannot afford the high cost of nomination forms.
Most political parties are no longer willing to provide free or accessible tickets for women, creating financial barriers that continue to push women out of leadership spaces. Sadly, many women do not have political godfathers or financial structures to support their ambitions, while the few already in government are not doing enough to address this growing concern.
This trend is gradually leading to the political disenfranchisement of women ahead of the 2027 elections.
Nigeria cannot achieve balanced governance without strong female representation.
