Senator Monday Okpebholo Sworn in as New Governor of Edo State

In a great turn of events, Former senator and APC candidate Monday Okpebholo has officially assumed office as the new Governor of Edo State following his victory in the September 21 governorship election.

The inauguration ceremony took place in Benin City on November 12, 2024, and was attended by numerous dignitaries, including Vice-President Kashim Shettima, Governors’ Forum Chair Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, and Edo’s reinstated Deputy Governor Philip Shaibu.

Okpebholo’s triumph signifies a major political shift in Edo, as he defeated PDP’s Asue Ighodalo with 291,667 votes against Ighodalo’s 247,274. Labour Party’s Olumide Akpata came in third with 22,763 votes. His running mate, Dennis Idahosa, was also sworn in as the new deputy governor.

A Call for Unity and Progress

Additionally, representatives from APC across Nigeria, including traditional leaders like the Olubadan of Ibadanland, attended the event, signaling strong party support. This inauguration marks the beginning of a new chapter under APC leadership, with citizens and officials alike expressing high hopes for Okpebholo’s tenure.

Expectations from Okpebholo’s Administration

As the stage is set, Governor Okpebholo faces the task of meeting the high expectations set by the people of Edo, who have endorsed his leadership. As he begins his term, there is eagerness across the state to see how his administration will address key issues and foster development.
