Christiano Ronaldo Leaves Portugal Camp Ahead of Denmark Clash Amid Tension Report
Christiano Ronaldo has left Portugal’s national team camp in Copenhagen, just a day before the team’s Nations League meeting with Denmark, after a series of developments involving head coach Jorge Jesus.
The 41-year-old forward announced his departure on Wednesday, September 30, saying the decision came after Jesus addressed the media and he had spoken with Portuguese Football Federation president Pedro Proença. Ronaldo did not explain the full reason for leaving but promised to tell the Portuguese public more about his decision later.
The development comes days after Portugal defeated Norway 2–1. Ronaldo remained on the bench throughout that match, despite warming up, and reports subsequently raised questions about his relationship with Jesus.
Speaking before Portugal’s scheduled training session, Jesus dismissed claims that Ronaldo had refused to train. He also denied that there had been an incident between them, explaining that he had made the decision not to bring the captain onto the pitch against Norway.
However, Ronaldo’s departure has added another layer of uncertainty ahead of Portugal’s meeting with Denmark. Both Ronaldo and Jesus were absent when the rest of the squad arrived at their hotel, according to Reuters.
Ronaldo remains Portugal’s record goalscorer and most-capped player. His decision to leave camp has therefore attracted attention, although he has not announced any retirement from international football.
For now, the reason behind his departure remains unclear, with fans waiting for the further explanation he has promised.
