Akpabio Responds to Health Rumors
Presiding over the session, Akpabio personally dismissed the misleading reports. He noted that modern digital platforms often produce “garbage in, garbage out” content. Although he supports free speech, he emphasized the difficulty of curbing deliberate falsehoods.
Additionally, the Senate President noted that people often use AI to manipulate stories for profit. This investigation is part of a broader effort to protect public officials from digital attacks.
Misinformation Targets National Leaders
These Godswill Akpabio health reports are not an isolated incident. Senator Zam reminded the chamber that former Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon, recently faced similar false death claims. Therefore, the Senate has resolved to treat such misinformation as a serious security matter.
The Committee on Special Duties will now work with the NSA to finalize the probe. Ultimately, the Senate aims to ensure that those who promote false stories about government officials will face legal consequences.
