The First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has reiterated the administration’s dedication to improving the well-being of the citizens of Nigeria by ensuring access to quality healthcare for Nigerians. She made this statement in Abuja during the 25th anniversary celebration of the National Hospital, Abuja (NHA), themed “Celebrating 25 Years of Quality Services and Expert Care.”

In her address, Mrs. Tinubu applauded the efforts of the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Professor Muhammad Pate, the Chief Medical Director, Professor Muhammad Raji, and the hospital’s staff for their unwavering commitment to enhancing healthcare services.

“Every Nigerian deserves access to quality healthcare, regardless of their circumstances or background,” she stated. “Under the leadership of President Bola Tinubu, the Federal Government remains steadfast in its mission to rebuild Nigeria’s healthcare system.”

She emphasized the critical role of the National Hospital, Abuja, in providing affordable and top-tier healthcare services. She urged the staff and management to maintain resilience and strive for excellence, ensuring the institution continues to positively impact lives.

Honoring Past Contributions

The First Lady also acknowledged the foresight of Hajia Maryam Abacha, the former First Lady of Nigeria, whose Family Support Programme initiated the establishment of the National Hospital for Women and Children. In 1999, its mandate was expanded to serve as an apex referral hospital for all Nigerians, earning it the name National Hospital, Abuja.

As part of the anniversary celebrations, Mrs. Tinubu announced the naming of the hospital’s Radiotherapy Centre as the Mariam Abacha Radiotherapy Centre in honor of its founding vision. She further marked her visit by inaugurating the facility and planting trees on the hospital grounds.

Call for Collaboration

Mrs. Tinubu highlighted the importance of collective investment in healthcare, urging stakeholders to reflect on ways they can contribute positively to the sector. She affirmed the government’s commitment to fostering a healthcare system that prioritizes quality and affordability for every Nigerian.
