APC Rallies for 2027 Elections as Tinubu Urges for Unity amongst Oyo APC Leaders
In a strategic move to reclaim political ground, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has called on All Progressives Congress (APC) leaders in Oyo State to unite ahead of the 2027 elections. Represented by Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, Tinubu emphasized the need for unity among party members to wrestle control from the opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP), which won in the 2019 and 2023 elections.
Tinubu’s Rallying Cry at Lam Adesina Lecture
Speaking at the inaugural Lam Adesina Annual Lecture in Ibadan, Tinubu stressed that Oyo State’s significance to the APC’s broader national strategy cannot be overstated. “Oyo is too important to be missing among the progressive states,” he declared. The lecture, which celebrated the legacy of former Oyo governor Lam Adesina, drew prominent figures including former Ekiti State Governors Adeniyi Adebayo and Kayode Fayemi, Senators Teslim Folarin and Abdulfatai Buhari, and the APC Oyo State Chairman, Alhaji Olayide Abas.
The event also saw the participation of traditional rulers, such as the Olubadan of Ibadanland, signaling the broad support the APC hopes to garner as it gears up for the next electoral cycle.
The Challenge Ahead: Unseating PDP in 2027
Oyo APC’s defeat to the PDP’s Governor Seyi Makinde in consecutive elections has prompted a renewed focus on regaining the state. Adelabu, echoing Tinubu’s sentiments, urged party members to close ranks and focus on a collective mission. “To honor Lam Adesina’s legacy, the Progressives in Oyo must unite. Come 2027, Oyo State must return to the progressive fold,” Adelabu said, rallying party loyalists.
Calls for Reforms and Renewed Values
Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele, represented by Senator Shuaib Salisu, emphasized the need for a renewed commitment to core Nigerian values. “Nigerians must rediscover a value system that encourages responsibility,” he noted, aligning with the event’s theme of unity, progress, and democratic ideals.
Building Momentum for 2027
Tinubu’s call for unity highlights the APC’s strategy to strengthen its presence in the Southwest region. The party’s focus now shifts to rallying its members, consolidating support, and strategizing to overcome internal divisions ahead of the next election cycle.
With 2027 fast approaching, the APC in Oyo faces a crucial task: overcoming past losses and capitalizing on the momentum created by Tinubu’s presidency. The message is clear — unity is essential if the party hopes to reclaim Oyo and re-establish itself as the dominant force in the state.
